727 vs 518

Which is the stronger and better transmission? 727 or 518? The 727 is just a 3 speed with a lock up on 3rd gear... . right? wrong? The 518 from what I have heard is the sister to the 727 with a OD and no lock up. I always had manual trannys and my 89 w250is the 3 speed auto, little worried about the slush pack going bad.

Better yet, just don't worry about it and do an nv4500 conversion.

Just keep the fluid and filter change around 36k miles. Adjust the bands at the same time and run it.



You have 3:08's gears in your axles. Those are the items to keep a real close eye on. They get real expensive to repair if you have a major failure. Ring and pinions are very hard to find now. They are NS1 from Dodge so your into the used market if you need to replace them.
