what are the odds?

Rob's long drive

I have a 1975 75 hp evinrude outboard boat motor, and I like to drain and refill the lower unit gear oil every spring. My question is the marine type gear oil any different than the cheaper X-weight gear oil? The marine style costs a bit more than regular gear oil. Anyone know what weight the marine oil is? I'd like find out what weight it is, since the marine jug doesnt say. Thanks. Bill

I believe the biggest difference is in the additive package. Because the lower units are in use while submerged, marine gear lube has extra anti-rust additives to fight moisture inside the gear case.
