I had a good time today with an old racing buddy. He pulls up next to me at a stop light looked over and seen it was me and let me know he wanted to play. Off we went, he pulled alittle out of the hole(he got the light on me) and I just equaled his speed until we had to stop for the next light. The next light I got him on the light and put the hammer down about 3/4 ways in 2nd and 3rd then had to lift. (damn little slow cars) I turned off shortly after to pick up some grub for dinner and he followed me in. He was at my door long before I was cool enough to shut down. We shot the bull for quite a while with out talking about our race (he moved away a couple of years ago). He then asked if I would like to drive a real truck(his) a 2001 GMC HD crew cab SWB 8. 1L 6 speed 3. 73 4X4. I took it out for a spin and it ran out alright, I was slightly impressed with it for a gasser. He asked and I told him "it runs alright", he says "just alright this is one of the fastest trucks on the road!!!!!" He tell me that he drove Power strokes, V10 Fords and a dodge HO 6 speed and that this 496 would kick all there butts. I asked him about the Duramax and he said he could find one with the 6 speed. (he's a manual type a guy)
I tell him to hop in and for a ride we go. i take it easy for a couple of shifts and then in 4th I get a big enough opening and put the hammer down all the way. He screams "HOLY I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER you doug, you were just toying with me" then punches me in the shoulder. I pull over and let him drive us back to his truck. He never even got to 3/4 throttle on the way back. As he get's out he says " this truck is scarey fast"
We BS alittle while longrer then he says "it just aint fair your race car always used to beat me and now damn smoky thing will suck me right up the turbo" Then he asked if the 24 valves could be hopped up as much as mine. A convert and he only has 9600 miles on his truck!!!!
It was a very fun time and I had forgotten all about what I had gone to the store for and had gotten in my truck and pulled away from the parking stall when I remebered.
It was a great time hooking back up with a lost buddy and showing him the CUMMINS power!!!
