I know the same parts used in bombing the 5. 9 can be used in the 8. 3 with the P7100 but has anyone had any experence doing just that. What kind of numbers have you seen? What are the do's and dont's?

Injection pump on my 7130 and 8910 Case IH tractors with the 8. 3 Cummins are different then what's in my truck. I cranked the power on my 7130 from 193 hp to 215 hp by turning a screw under a little cover on the back of the injection pump.

The head gaskets in the 8. 3 engines have been a problem for years. I think Case-IH has updated the part number at least 5 times. I overhauled the 8. 3 in our 7120 and the first head gasket lasted 600 hours before leaking antifreeze to the outside. I installed the latest Case-IH head gasket and new head bolts and so far, so good. I have been told by our machine shop that there is not enough metal in the head, which causes the head surface to not stay straight. The newest MX series tractors still have the 8. 3, but have not heard of any head gasket problems with them yet. What do yo have an 8. 3 engine in?

I'm pulling out the Detroit 8. 2 turbo to replace it with the Cummins 8. 3 which is in a 81 Chevy C7000 crew cab that has a toter bed on it which I plan on using to pull my toys to the desert or the beach. I plan on installing a 10 plate and some 3K GSK. The pump on my engine is the same model P7100 as the Dodge 5. 9 and should respond the same with the same type of mod's. I may do a little turbo work if needed. Right now the "C" is rated 275hp.

I just installed a #10 plate and the 3000 GSK spring kit a couple of weekends ago and could not believe the difference in power. These were installed on my 96 3/4ton 4x4 with the 5 speed. I have an Isspro pyrometer and boost gauge to install on my pillar. My next mod is a set of injectors. I want to see where I am with exhaust temp and boost level before deciding on injectors.

How tough of a job is it to mount the Cummins in place of the Detroit?

It's gonna be a job but that's nothing new around my house. I'm gonna have to build a doghouse to install the engine far enough back to be able to use the intercooler. Just like a big truck.

Talked to a couple of Experts and the said Bomb away. The 8. 3 is one tough *****. Something about Piers building a marine 8. 3 to 1000HP :--)

THe 8. 3 is one tough momma when done right. YOUr engine has the P7100 because it is an automotive motor, the Case tractor has a different pump for governor reasons. Our 8. 3 we are building for the tractor is sitting right about 1057 flywheel hp. Good luck and have fun, Marc

Yea I know all of that with my 5. 9 12Valve. I'd just like to hear what other 8. 3 owners have done that may be different from what we do with the 5. 9

Where does a guy go to buy aftermarket injectors and valve springs for an 8. 3? What is the next size up from the HX40 for this engine? How about head gaskets? Can the head studs be installed if needed? I don't want to get crazy with this thing but I do want to know what to look out for.

The mods are pretty much along the same lines as the 5. 9L. We (father, my 6yr old son, and I) are running a John Deere 12 cylinder injector pump, custom injection lines, injectors at 6x. 028, the head is fire ringed with custom studs, custom cam, Schwitzer turbo :D . If you want to pm me I can further describe, but kinda want to keep it quiet till season starts :-laf ..... Marc

Yea PM me. I'd like to hear about the head studs, turbo and the fire rings. I don't need the pulling secrets unless they open an RV toter class :D :-laf
