p-pump for 4bt

Cruise Control Instructions for 7.3 Ford Excursion or Super Duty

im looking for help an advice on doin a 8. 3 onversion in my 2002 superduty i have a p-pumped 24V in it now an am tryin to uild a 500hp trailer towin beast an the way my truck is setup now it gets real hot real fast so im lookin at tryin the 8. 3 so anyinfo would be great guys

Boy, I drive an 8. 3 in a Kenworth at work and compared to the 5. 9 they're massive. I guess you could fit it in there, but I'm not sure how. They have to weigh quite a bit more and the suspension upgrades would be equally massive. Do you think that might overweight your front axle?

I believe you should just buy a class 5 or 6 truck and ad a truck bed. That 8. 3 in a pickup will handle like crap and barley steer. Not to mention the wear and tear on the whole drivetrain from weight and torque. Drove a 77 chevy one ton 4x4with a 350 cummins small cam with a 9 speed, talk about serious modifications and a huge waste of money. It handled very bad and I never went over 45 mph with it:eek:. just my . 02 cents , but hey sounds like a challenge worth trying.

Good luck, Brian

i tow at 600hp with my 5. 9. the 8. 3 is a heavy pig. you would need a larger trans and bigger radiator also. they get bad mileage and won't do the job you are looking for any better. if you need to haul 26k or more legally then maybe a class 5 or 6 truck but to put a 8. 3 in your ford would be a waste of time and money. just my . 02

are all your cooling systems in good order? the system is designed to cool a ~200hp truck, you would have to modify or add coolers to make that extra power usable in a sustained fashion.

I have not done it, but oil coolers, trans coolers, maybe a better intercooler, and water meth, matching turbo etc.

im startin to belive this is more hassle than its worth my truck needs another turbo an a intercooler then im hopein i can keep the egts down cause it will smack 1500 in a heartbeat

twins an a complete overhaul i want to be able to gross 30000+ an flat foot it with 500hp that y i thought the 8. 3 would be a better option

an i now what some will say 26000 is the heaviest u can go with a pickup an i know that

i have towed my toy hauler at 486hp all last year with no ill effects. 24. 5k combined was max. this year i'm runnin it at 600hp and so far so good.
i would think 500hp occasionally towing 30k would be compatible, but you didn't hear that from me. all the weight hater's and all might get offended.
things your gonna need: twins and a double disc clutch for sure.

i have a dual disk from sb clutch im hopeing when i get my head work done an a intercooler it will help out a bunch but twins is still a must have i want to use my garret stage 3 then get another garret those things spool really quick

i have an S300/S400 and it has helped out more than ever. except for the fact that i don't have to lift on any big grades any more.

Dont be a wimp. Put a 8. 9 ISL in there, with a Jake, and hide the rad under the bed. Big power, simple. ISC's (8. 3) are all around, just make sure that you get a common rail.

that would be a sleeper.

an 8. 9 isl would be awsome if it would fit hahaha i have never heard of that motor but the only cumins stuff i keep up with is the 5. 9 stuff whats the price of one of them an would it really fit?

Towing all this weight is great , heck i over load my stuff as well .

I like horse power as much as the next guy . Id say you need to back

out of the pump and then your EGTs will drop , in the hills , If you got the plastic tank radaitor throw it in the scrap and get a custom built radaitor

either coper or aluminum that will cure the water temps .

Here is the big thing to renember when it comes to weight towing , you can make it move easy , even with some weak littel 4 bager pu .

But the trick is to stop it !!!!!!!!! There was a truck stop owner in Troutdale, Ore that killed him self with his dodge carring too much weight sevral years ago and his was set up to haul the weight .

Some thing to ponder about . You can buy older single axel tractors cheap to haul big weight

there are plenty of class 5 and 6 trucks out there with a 5. 9 cummins. heck even the ford f550 and 650 had them as an option. that ought to tell ya something.

I believe "BIGGER IS BETTER" . Put the 8. 3 IN! It weighs 1400 LBS, puts out300 HP at 2400 rpm, 860 ft/lb at 1300 rpm. I imagine you can turn up the pump like any other cummins, and 1200 ft/lbs should be easy, and not have as high EGT as you have on your 5. 9 now! DO IT!!! :-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf

if you have ever been around the 8. 3 you would know it's a turd. and if you think bigger is better go buy a big block gas motor. cubic inches don't mean a thing next to reliability.

I guess a guy could bolt a KTA 1150 in the bed after some serious

frame and axel mods , then youd have around 1400 HP stock

or you could go lighter and bolt two 5. 9s crank to crank

but seriously get serios how much HP does one need ?

There was a hot rod artickle back in the late 90s about a 96 or so dodge with 700 HP in his 1 to dually with a 5. 9 but im shure it towed nothing

Hey, oneshot, you blew your 5th grade math. a 454 chev is 50 cubic inches SMALLER than an 8. 3(504 ci). the 8. 3 stock makes DOUBLE the torque of the 454. So, whats your point? ANY cummins is WAY more durable than any gas engine. the 8. 3 is the basic engine in many 40 ft. motor homes, and they`ll pull 10 / 12 mpg while towin` a toy trailer and not have any heating or egt issues. True, you can BOMB the hell out of a 5. 9 to get a 1000 ft lb/torque engine but you won`t be pullin` a 25,000 lb or 30,000 lb load up hills all day without egt and heatin` issues. A mild tweak om a 8. 3 will be tons more reliable than any gas engine or BOmbed 5. 9. If he wants to put an 8. 3 in his truck for HEAVY HAULING, the 8. 3, properly installed, would one *** kickin` combo, IMHO. DON`t be so negative!:-laf:-laf:-laf
