Cruise Control Instructions for 7.3 Ford Excursion or Super Duty

i was comparing a big block to the engine he already has to a 5. 9. i am not a negative person but have experience working with 8. 3's and they suck. with your great experience with the 8. 3 you should know it wont get 10/12 mpg pulling. that's shows your knowledge. for his towing needs a 5. 9 will be more than enough. they do put 5. 9 in heavier class truck so don't give me the crap about towing heavy and high EGT's and heating issues. a bigger engine like the 8. 3 will need a larger radiator, air to air, transmission, drivelines, rear end. by the time you get all that junk in there you will be towing more than his 30,000 mark. have yo priced an 8. 3 engine, a transmission or any of the parts it would take to build a combo like this . he could go buy a used semi tractor and be miles ahead.

p. s pound sand on your 5th grade remark

Oneshot, if you go back to the top of this thread you`ll see that 24v already has problems with high egts. when he said he wants 500 hp that means he wants to tow faster as opposed to slower. the bigger trucks with the 5. 9 tow slow. when you boost`em up to 500hp you`re goin` to have egt problems towin` heavy and fast. If 24v has no problems with the driveline he has now with his p pumped 24v, he shoulden`t have any with a mild 8. 3. The bigger engine will be making the same torque that he now has, but it will be making it more efficiently and therefor less heat. I have a sister and another buddy who both got 10+ mpg with their 40ft motor homes. thats my expierience with the 8. 3s in motor homes. what`s yours? Your 5th grade math goes right along with your 5th grade logic. a stock 454 makes about 500ft/lb you can hotrod it up to 600 ft/lb, but it won`t be friendly to towing heavy or fast. a stock `06 5. 9 makes about 650 ft/lb and can be turned up to where a 8. 3 starts. when you turn`em up that high they do not tow heavy or fast for very long(see the first post on this thread) I haven`t figgured out where you got that stuff about the big gas engine being better than the 5. 9 he already has. If you were comparing a big gas engine to the 5. 9 instead of the 8. 3 you should have said so. that way we`ll all know what you thought you were thinking. :-laf:-laf

let me clarify some things on why i would like to go with he 8. 3 the way my truck is setup now it gets hot really fast but if i go to a 8. 3 it will make the same power i have now an i will be able to flat foot it an not worry bout heat issues big hp is fun but its pretty lame imo if u can only romp on it for a few seconds

intercooler an radiator will be no problem with well built aftermarket ones so water temps an egts should be kept undercontrol

now ifi can just get some info on that 8. 9 isl motor with a jake now that would be a killer setup there

chipster, 500hp ain't ****. iv'e been towing around 24. 5k at 600hp and have yet to have any cooling issue. 100hp less is less heat. your second hand info on the 8. 3 mileage is just that, not from experience but what you have been told. i used to wrench on cummins motors for a while so i already have a better understanding of that particular engine which is junk. first hand experience, not my sister or my buddy. the cubic inch thing started when you say "BIGGER IS BETTER"? how many of those 7. 3 fords can outrun the little 5. 9 cummins? get off your high horse no it all attitude and give an educated decision on what you do know. it ain't the 8. 3:-laf:-laf:-laf

24 V claims hes running hot .

While a truck with 600 HP is not . I think the problem

is the truck needs a decent cooling system in it to start with .

do you have a stock ford radaitor or an custum built unit ?

Id say your running to lean your cooling system is plugged up

oneshot, when I ride in my sisters motorhome, and my buddy`s motor home, and hand calc the MPG ,thats NOT hearsay, that is first hand info. Thats my expierince with the 8. 3. I`m sure there are trucks with 8. 3s that don`t get 10+ mpg, and thats where you get your biased opinion against the 8. 3. I agree with 24v that the 8. 3 would pull heavy loads easier because it don`t have to work as hard to make the required power. :)

oneshot, a bigger cummins is better than a smaller cummins. thats the only thing I`ve been saying . you can`t compare a power joke to a cummins, IMHO,:-laf:-laf

if the feller wants to go with a 8. 3 conversion, i say more power to him. i just completed a 12v conversion on my 3500hd. before doing this one, i allready had plans for a dt466 conversion on a f550 ford. figured i could look around and find a 550 with a 6. 0, and do me the ultimate swap. i have a 466 ready to go, and i'am fairly familar with them as well as other medium engines like the 8. 3. for what it's worth,as for early model engines go, i would stay with a 5. 9 before i even considered an 8. 3. early 8. 3 engines were more problematic, latter were more solid. having said this, with any brand 1400+ lb engine like the 8. 3, i would not waste my time with any truck like a 3500 series. a 450/550 ford, or a 3500hd gm would be more suitable, for holding that kind of weight over the long haul. personly, even after considering a similar conversion myself, i found more logic in going with a full fledged two ton truck, which i allready have. the heavier trucks just make more sense for a man doing frequent hauling. safety is more important then anything, and heaven knows i had done way more then my share of overloading pickups. with lawsuits like they are now, and more traffic on the roads, takeing those chances just arent a good idea anymore.
