Anyone tried this in a ram?? The 8. 3 only weighs about 500lb. more than the 5. 9

Couldn't you add air bags to the front springs or just get heavier ones... .

I think the 8. 3 is a lot bigger (taller) so you might have to modify your hood a bit... like add a couple of inches to it.

You'd be better off to try it in a Ford, the Dodge front end is too weak, as far as steering and suspension goes. I'd expect the transmission would take up an awful lot of room, also... .

If that's true, Devildog, I guess that means all three brands have lousy front ends, so we're in good company.

Some guy here was doing it in a '90 or so model F-250. He had pics where he had seriously beefed up the front frame and he had to cut part of the firewall out to fit the engine in, so I presume he will have a big hump in the middle of his seats like the old ford vans had. I think his handle was c-series man or something to that effect. I couldn't find the thread though, so maybe you'll have better luck.

Supposedly the 8. 3 engines are relatively easy and inexpensive to come by, but the TRANNIES are BIG, harder to locate, and expen$ive...

I have looked into doing this project, and you can find a used heavy-duty MT for under five bills.

Well Briar,

I hope the front ends on our Dodges are better than what ford puts out. I had a Chevy 4x4 3/4 ton no front end problems, In fact I had no problems with that truck what so ever. before that, I had a ford 3/4 ton econoline and after four torque converters, three transmission, replaced all the moving parts in the front end twice including the bushings, chased A/C problems and surpentine problems I DUMPED that peice of crap and before that I had a ford 4x4 front end problems left and right including the steering box grenading. . So I beleive I am qualified to say that ford front ends are crap by the way, I had different mechanics work on those vehicles so I know that human error wasn't the issue. Maybe I just don't have good luck with fords, I won't buy another to find out why!
