we all have heard the term "wound like an 8 day clock"

my Q is ... ..... have you ever seen one ?

and if so when you do wind it does it take longer to wind it than would a 7 day clock?

Oh yeah? That's the first time I've ever heard it. Maybe they only have 8 day clocks in Wyoming:p

Now that I think of it wound up like an 8 day clock probably means up tight. An 8 day clock is probably just a 7 day one that has been wound too tight. So to answer your question it does take longer to wind.

Sure have!

In fact I have a clock that can be set anywhere from 60 minutes to 32 days! :) Hey not even just one-multiples of them... ... betcha there's only about 6 of us on here that know where they can be found or who have ever seen one?

Jason

Oh by the way mine don't wind-they're battery-powered!

An 8 day clock in Wyoming, why not?

I'm tellin' ya that Close Encounters movie really happened!! I mean put 2 and 2 together and you'll relize that Whit and the Devil's Tower are both in Whyroaming.

And the way that Whit has been posting, it wouldn't suprise me if he was really the character that Richard Dreyfuss was playing.

If Whit shows up at a Cummins event with half his face sunburned and carrying cages with pigeons in them, Run as fast as you can!!!:D

Whit also had a cameo appearance in the film:

Eight days

It might be like the duck season in Louisiana, the sportsmen ask the wildlife folks for an additional month to hunt ducks, their reply was, "Another month? What we gonna call it, you hunt ducks 12 months of the year now. " bg

JHansen almost told you where to find an 8 day clock. All of us oilys know what they are. They are the clocks that drive circular measurement charts for pressure, temperature and differnetial pressure. Most of these charts are changed once a week but the mechanism has an 8 day movenment to make sure it doesn't run down and miss some information.

I found this subject while doing a search on the TDR. Being a collector of old clocks and watches, I thought I'd pitch in my 2 cents worth. In the days gone by, before electric, battery, and quartz became the norm, clocks where usually sold in either 30 hour or 8 day models. They could be either weight or spring driven, wall or shelf models. A buyer could look in a catalog and pick out the one he/she wanted. I have heard from other repairman that the eight day movement was designed to get a week on one winding with out it stopping. Makes sense to me.

Another interesting fact ( if anyone cares ) is a clock is only a clock if it strikes the hour. Otherwise it is a timepiece.

So thats what your brain is on Whit(I like that:D )a 8 day clock. I think Doc is running one too. Are you going to be asking all the questions now instead of Doc. Or will it be both:-{} of you.

I own an eight day clock. It's a cuckoo clock I purchased in Germany. I have to wind it once a week. The extra day means that I don't have to wind it precisely at the same time. I don't wind it with a key, it runs with weights on chains that drop slowly. A seven day clock would have a shorter chain.
