I've managed not to get the 8001 recall done to my truck so far and seem to have decent power. I just took a trip to Banff and at one point, couldn't accelerate uphill and had to downshift to 5th to hold 65. Oh yeah, I was empty - just a weeks worth of clothes and stuff for 2 and 2 bicycles on the rack. I did just mount 265/75/16 AT/KO tires, but they're not all that much bigger than the originals. Where this occured was about 4-4500 feet, but it seems like it should have still accelerated pretty good since I was empty/not hauling anything. MPG seemed to be about right, assuming I did all the metric to US conversions correctly.

For all of you 98ers out there, have you had the 2 reflashes done and what have been your results? Thanks for the inputs.

mines a 99. Had the 18-11-99 done, was great. Heard others weren't so luckly.

I was having low power complaints when the 18-11-99 was done. If you're not having complaints then don't do the reflash.

However!!! when my transmission required replacement I was given another reflash
18-25-99 not as much power as before. I griped and complained but to no avail. Even had Cummins SW check it out. DC and Cummins said it was were it was supposed to be.

So for me the 18-11-99 was a great fix for an existing problem, but the 18-25-99 was DC answer to putting out the fire and my good time. The VA and boost mod more than made up for it.

Be careful about avoiding that recall - that stays in the DC computer, and you can be refused warranty work if your vehicle is not up to date with recalls.

When I had my '99,I took it to Frontier Dodge and specified 18-11-99 be done and NOT 8001. I really loved the difference it did to that truck. I also had my '00 reflashed, and love the results.
Have you made sure your lift pump is good and fuel filter isn't clogged?

Mike - forgive me if I'm wrong, but if you get 18-88-99 doesn't that include the 8001 mods?

Anyway, my dealer is pretty good on warranty issues and knows I don't have the recall done but still does the other work. Every time I go in I specify NOT to do the reflash and they don't. At least as far as I can tell. I won't mention the dealer here because of all the Nazis watching this board, but they are a good dealer.

I had 18-11-99 done on my truck about a month after it's release. It was much quieter, ran better and mpg went down about 1 mpg average.

In contrast, my Power Edge made the truck much louder because I'm always on the throttle, runs twice as good and mpg stayed the same.

I had the TSB done because I thought I would get what I paid for at no cost. If I had not had the reflash today, I would go with the "plug-in" Power Edge... no question.

No,they're two different reflashes. 8001 was an emissions program, but killed engine power. 18-11-99 was for low power complaints regardless if you had 8001 done or not. It changes the engine timing to a better setting,so I couldn't really see how both flashes could be 'rolled together'.

So whats the 18-25-99 for then?
