I am beginning a '82 dodge crew cab conversion. I bought a recked '96 2500 4x4 5spd for my doner truck because of the inline pump and coil-sprung front end, and am having trouble finding first gen. parts.
The '82 is a ex forest service truck, long box, and came with a 4spd and a 318 (which had already been pulled to make room for a 440) and no ac. a real bare bones work truck.
My plans for the truck are to build a custom frame out of 7x3 1/4 wall square tubing using the '96 front-end and a Kore race suspension kit with a ford hi-pinion D-60 and a short box.
For the interior i want to ad ac get better seats and dynamat the firewall and floor to make it a little quieter on the inside. Also did the crews ever have head-liners? I have read that the diesels have different peddles, so will i need to get ones from a diesel? Did the diesels use a hydraulic actuated clutch like the '96?
As far as the engine goes i am adding a 24 valve head and an ats manifold w/ a holset he431v variable geometry turbo and a worked over pump.
I finally found a inter-cooled radiator support but am desperately in need of a wiring harness because all the wiring on mine is shot. The pickup that i got the support out of was so trashed i was surprised that the support was still good.
Would the cab harness out of a '91 gasser be the same as the diesels or not? The reason I ask is because the pickup that i got the short box off of is a gasser.
Does anybody know if there is aftermarket harnesses for the first gen. diesels or any kind of an aftermarket parts supplier like lmc for these trucks?
if anybody has a first gen. parts truck please let me know as i am looking for these parts:
cab and engine wiring harnesses
a whole hvac system (evaporator and condenser)
"cummins" instrument bessel
or a complete dash out of a diesel, tan colored, w/hvac system
new style door panels w/ man door locks and windows, again tan
if possible rears also?
steering column out of '91 '92 '93
