How is it lifted? What parts does it come with? My 3" SkyJacker kit was less than 600 and I like it, so it depends on the parts I suppose.

The Fabtech is not a bad lift. It actually sits around 4" after settling. It does use rear blocks, and some have mixed feelings about that if your towing/hauling. Is this price with shocks? If the standard Fabtech shocks are included, opt for something better. They are your standard hydraulic "white" shock and suck. I know there are a few vendors that offer the Fabtech with Bilsteins for around $150 extra over the standard shocks. I had a chance to checkout a 2500 at a dealer that had the Fabtech kit installed. Looked nice, my only complaint was that the arms did not have grease fittings. Just something to consider.

I see way too many of these that don't hold up well and get replaced with better later. I see many trucks on a daily bassis, the only trucks that will survive with these "generic" lifts are the ones that don't get used. I would NEVER stack blocks it is unsafe. Look how small your u bolts are at factory length, then imagine how much weaker they will be if you add 3-5 more inches to them. The added heigth adds leverage which will increase axle wrap. The Carli starter system is only a bit more and comes with quality Bilstein shocks and is easy to upgrade later with out having to buy new springs again.

I would never knock Carli, KORE, or Lorenz, as they are all great products, but I see nothing wrong with what you call "generic" lifts. If a person wants something more than 3" of total lift, even if it's purely for asthetic purposes, so be it. The fact is that some of us just like the look of a lifted truck with larger tires/wheels, and don't wish to run 80+ through the desert. The day someone produces a "kit" with heavy duty ball joints, wheel bearings, tie-rods, quality shocks, and full spring replacements at a reasonable price I will be impressed. I have run my Skyjacker for 15k plus with zero problems and love the ride and handling, even when towing. Again, I have nothing against the high-end kits, but it seems at times that if a major brand lift is even mentioned here the thought is cut at the knees.

Is Carli's system 4-4 1/2" though?

Like I have posted in other treads my 3" has been parked next to 4. 5" lifts and the difference is negligble. Just like tire sizes not being accurate I see the same thing with lift kits.

The differance between you and I is I have to work on these things. I see failures caused by under engineered parts all the time. I should keep track of how many have started out low line then spend twice to get what they should have started with:-laf

I will admit I have changed what I was using the truck for and have had to do the same thing.
