My son wants to go to a campground that is 8500ft in the eastern Sierras. I will be towing about 12K in my fifth wheel. Should I try it? Or just tell him my trailer won't follow above 5000 ft :)

Your engine has full boost up to 10000ft - above power will reduce because the turbo can't go faster anymore.

At 12000ft i experienced quite some turbo lag, spool time was waaaaaaaaay longer then, but as soon as it picked up the power was fine to, had still around 20psi boost up there.

We've been all over the US camping and pulling 18KLbs+ and always made it just fine. Go for it and enjoy the BEST the US has to offer.

Happy Trails, Ron

We live in Colorado. Once you leave the front range you are hard pressed to not get into 8500 territory or higher and no issues. Yes you will feel a bit more turbo lag than at sea level but nothing like a gasser would be. If you have an exhaust brake use it going down if not well just use your brakes and gearing wisely.
