Vibration in MBZ 4x4 wagon cured!

Hey guys:

I have a buddy considering this. He has avery nice 1987 Chevy with a 6" lift and it is currently powered by a gutless 350 and a 700R4 transmission. His dad has a 1990 Cummins engine, 727 transmission, and a 205 transfer case out of a first generation rig. He has toyed with the idea of putting the Cummins in the Chevy. How hard of a job is this? What is the best transmission to use? Where can you get the conversion kits for this project, I know someone has bellhousing adapters and motor mounts but forgot who.

Thanks,

John

Try Cummins

Your Cummins shop might still sell the adapters. The GM 700 transmission will be okay if you build it up a little. I know the stock 700 trannies are not too strong, but there are some good kits out there to beef them up quite a bit. It should hold up okay. Now, if you plan on bombing the motor, then I would consider something else.

The trany with the motor will work if you want to swap out the front and rear end. The 727 is not an OD trany . Don't even think about bolting it to the 700r it will not last. also sounds like the truck is a 1/2 ton?? if it is you will want to swap the front and rear for sure. I'm puting a 24 valve in my 86 now so if you have any more questions... ...
