I have a 93 and have adjusted the pump as noted on the TST website and noticed considerable power gains. My exhaust temp is still not getting up to about 1050. I was only able to turn the screw in so far after removing the lock collar before it bottomed out. On TST's website they said that a few of these trucks would not benefit from turning the power adjustment screw and need larger injectors. Iamjust wondering if my truck is one of these or is there another adjustment I can perform. Ialso adjusted the AFC and the truck smokes some when taking off but blows out little or no smoke at full throttle. If there is anybody out there who has performed these modifications and can shed some light please feel free to do so.

I also turned up the pump, but I am more cautious as I do not have a Pyro. The Smoke issue still bothers me when I start out from a dead stop and the old girl seems to idle a little rougher. I think that my injectors/pump are getting weak as some of the smoke is a little bluish when colder than highway temps.

OK Wild Dave/Lil' Dog: Get on over to: http://www.ecpe.vt.edu/~dfritz/technical/DIESEL/more_power/POWER_ve.htm
Read and print it for reference. The page will take you quite nicely thru the adjustments of:low boost fuel delivery, full load delivery rate, and the full power adjustment. You should remove the soft metal band seal on the threaded adjustment screw. Follow the instructions, be careful, and use a small pick and small screwdriver to open the seam on the metal lock band. After you have made your adjustments, you can use the holes drilled in the adjusting screws to lock wire the screws. Regards. Long may you run.

I have already adjusted the full power adjustment screw and removed the lock collar. The article wasnot really clear about adjusting the full load delivery rate any info on this would be appreciated.

Excellent, now if my 16 cm2 housing would arrive. Ordered it 4 weeks ago.
Thanks old school.

Wild Dave: Regarding the Full load delivery rate - the Diaphragm can be rotated to allow a "quicker" rate. Remove the top cover, mark everything, do everything in small adjustments. I read and re-read the page, then removed the cover, and studied the mechanism to be sure I understood the operating function. Check it out..... again, mark the stock existing position of the diaphram, cover, etc.
Eugene: I received my 16cm2 housing from Diesel Injection (Pittsburgh) in 2 days UPS.
A tip - use a good anti-seize thread seal compound on the housing mating bore, and the bolts. With the 16cm2 housing, the boost will go up, the EGT will drop, and you can turn up the fuel more.
What you both want to see is a little black/grey puff at start-up, none at idle or running, and a black/grey semi-translucent tail at hard pull up through the gears. At that point of adjustment you should be at optimum fuel delivery rate for power and efficiency. Your seat of your pants will attest to this. As we both know, we're now making power (torque) lots of it. Spool up the turbine, love the whine, clutch and shift smoothly, make your driveline last forever.
REGARDS, Guys.

What is the LOad delivery rate... I have an 89 with a stage 3 power pack from banks. I turned the fuel to it, but I do not understand the other pump adjustments that require marking the original positions etc.

thanks
Don

Big Don: Check out the 4th post on 10/1/99 - I gave a http address. The site and page goes on quite nice about the three adjustments.

Big Don: Imade the adjustments you were talking about to my truck last night. Mytruck was already running almost on the richest setting so it did not make that much difference. I could tell it helped a little but on a truck that was running on the lean side of the eccentric I bet it would make a big difference.

in the tst website with pump adjustments it says to turn the pump screw 2 turns, at the end of the article it says there is an adjustment by the fuel line and to turn it 135 degrees. what is this adjustment and where exactly is it? thanks

Most, if not all, of the power adjustments from 1999 have been hashed and rehashed extensively since then. There are a few trade secret type internal modifications and adjustments that can be done when you feel the need to get ultimate fuelling from your VE pump.

One of my drivers just bought a 91 that he wants me to "turn up a bit", had to freshen up on my ve pump knowledge! Haven't messed with one of these since 2002! I want one of my own to play with. :)
