on my old 89 the grid heater wont kick in at all so far this winter. the temps are in the teens but still nothing. it turns over and sputters til finally it comes to life. can anyone help me it dont sound to good on the truck to keep starting it like this. is there a 93 grid conversion or something?? thanks

From what I have seen, it's the same unit as used on the latter models. You need to do some trouble shooting, or plug your truck in or wire it direct so as your the one controlling when they are on and off.

My 89 won't cycle until the temps are below 15*f or so. Are you saying last winter/temps your grid heater came on during the temps you are seeing now? Don't worry the non-Dodge 5. 9 apps, they don't use grid heaters, and they start just fine. Good starter, big battery you shouldn't have any problems. I'd be concerned with air getting in the fuel system somewhere between the tank and pump etc. This will cause hard starting as well. What size battery do you have btw?

Edit: for gl, early 89's came with grid heaters that do not turn on til 15*f or below. After those early models, the gh's turned on 59*f or below. To convert, well I've swapped thermistors, the grid heater assembly, and still doesn't come til 15*f or below, might be controlled by the relays or the box thingy on the firewall. Paychk posted some real nice photos on an earlier thread.
