My Dad has a 90 2WD/auto std cab truck. What exactly can we do as far as injectors go? Sheid wants to put different tips on the stock ones, and make them big injectors, the old man is set on thinking he needs a bigger turbo. What is that going to be the cheapest route? The exhaust is free flowing straight through now, and I put a K&N filter on it as well. The truck has benn turned up at the pump a little (just enough to get a little black smoke), other than that its stock. Any cheap ideas?

Check out Big Don's post on INJECTORS BEWARE. He has a bulk deal going on injectors for the early models. I believe these are the PW injectors.
The other route is the BD's. Not bad for price since I had to replace the injectors anyway, they were the same $ as stock replacements. Got rid of alot of the smoke. They are basically industrial 180 Hp versions from what I was told.

I read through that post. Seems to be some confusion on how much power which injector makes. Are the PW injectors the mean ones to have?

Screw the black smoke... which one makes the most power?

How big of an undertaking is it to put an inercooler on this truck?

What size is the turbo housing it has on it now, stock? He is after high end power. Tired of getting passed pulling his enclosed trailer and race car by diesel powered Chevy Sububans pulling like sized trailers and cars.

Get in touch with Jsimpson as he has gone through the install of an intercooler and upping the ante with a 12 cm2 housing. In 1990, the housing is the 18 cm2. I still have the stock one and get around 24# boost. Lots of power, just gets darn hot!!! An intercooler is the way to go, Banks is major $. I think JS got a one from a wrecker, not sure. Thats the route I am going when I can get the coin. Big Don did a little extra work to keep the stock grill in as the intercooler takes up alot of space up front.
Get in touch with these guys!.
As for power. . after the injectors, the pump in the 89-90 is the limiting factor. There is an upgraded pump with higher flow the 205 model, the stock installed is the 144 Model.
Hope this helps. .

(edit) Personally I would go with the 16 cm2 housing for high end power. The 12 and 14 are good for low end boost but I think restrictive at high end exhaust flow. Another great resource is Old School, his 1st gen before he sold it was an absolute smoker, as far as I know it still is!!!.

Chad, If our dad's truck has the stock housing it is a 18. 5cm2 housing and will benefit most from the 16cm2 housing. You could put a 14 or 12 on, but the cost is a lot higher cost and the benefits would not be cost prohibited. Intercooling is a must, if you decide to go with the injectors. I found a wrecked '93 and bought everything I needed for the intercooler conversion at reasonable cost. Just start looking long before you need it and you should come up with one. Most wrecking yards do not know what they are worth. Plan on $500- $750 for a 93' which is the best pre '94 setup. The radiator would also be a good investment if you do a lot of towing. If the engine is there try to get the top radiator neck off the thermostat housing it will make the radiator swap much easier! The above stated contacts are all good TDR resorces.

Hey, thanks for the knowledge guys. I will pass this on to the man fitting the bill and let him decide what he wants to do with these options.
