On the freeway going home last night was putting my truck on cruise and some how my exhaust brake came on. I noticed I was slowing down and looked at my dash and saw my post turbo temp around 900 deg. looked out the side view mirror to pull over and had lots of smoke from exhaust turned my exhaust brake switch off and hit the brake pedel to pull over. All this happened in about 10 secs. truck seems to run fine. Could I have done any damage? All I can figure what happened was some how I hit the resume speed switch that floored the throttle after I let off of the pedal which caused the brake to come on. I have had the brake stick on occasion before.

Larry I've had my EGT's pegged at 1500 pre for a bit doing a WOT blast on O/D, I doubt you hurt anything. You want to talk EGT's! Strick-9, Don M, and Cumminsgetme run some stupid EGT's and they have never melted anything!

The 10 sec. is after I noticed the 900 deg temps. I am sure my boast was pegged, wich is 29psi because I had to hunt for the go pedal it was all the way down! But I am hoping that the pre temps were not much higher than the post temps due to the fact that the Exhaust brake had the manifold closed off. I was playing with my smart controller and exhaust brake because I recently bought a 31' TT that I am towing and have had the PCM take my transmission to limp mode before when I was using them, unloaded and do not want this to happen when I am towing

1401 is melt down,so no big deal i would think thats pre turbo with a #6 plate i get up to 1300 all the time and have had no problem so far

You'll be ok. I've had mine at 1200 and a hair beyond POST TURBO a few times, if not but for a few seconds. Definitly not something one wants to make a habit of but these rigs are pretty tough. Now if I don't toss a dowel pin... :(

egt's

at the local test n' tune Sled Pull yesterday... since traction was a big issue {only 2wd} and i want to hang with the big dogs... i added 12 bails of Alfalfa in it and hooked to the sled. Saw in access of 1700 degrees pre-turbo, for about 1min/30 secs. . . no melt down and pulled 205 ft... . that' about 45,000 lbs:eek:  :D

I have a 1995 with TST 230 plate slid forward and 16cm housing and put all this on at 46,000 on truck and finnally put gauges on it at 175,000 and have seen 1400 preturbo with out towing and 1700 some times when towing. Never had any problems with it melting.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I can stop worrying now and will soon put it pre-turbo so I will not have to guess where it is. Thanks again!
