I start looking at winches for my FJ40 Toyota LC and notice that the MileMarker model 9,000 lb Electric Winch MIL7650040C which lists for $599. 00 and discounts to $449. 00 a lot is EXACTLY THE SAME WINCH as is sold by Harbor Frieght for $289. 00.

The only differences are the nametags. You could take a knife to the milemarker store and slice off the label to put on your new H. F. winch.

Just a little pearl of knowledge to keep y'all smarter. .

May be, or may not be the same. I do not know, but I would not buy anything that attaches to the truck, and is going to be used in times of trouble, from Harbor Freight. They are a good resource for many things, but most of their offerings are re-conditioned, re-built, or just cheap imitations of the real thing. They offer very little quality, and a cheap price tag. This works well for some supplies, mainly shop consumables that are used and discarded, but nothing that they offer in the way of machinery, heavy tools, large shop equipment or automotive accessories are any where close to average or good in turms of quality or value for the money. You will get a cheap part for a cheap price, and many times that is ok, but don't kid yourself into thinking they offer anything that compares to anyone of the many name brand winches.

You might be surprised to find how many of your name brand items are now made in the very same factories in Taiwan as the items in Harbor Freight are made. I said that the MileMarker winch and the HF winch are the same winch. Not a copy - the same. That's from a hands-on comparison - in person pervue. Unless you have a HF outlet where you can go to see and feel the products you aren't able to comment with substance as those folks have come a long long way in their production techniques and quality control using your dollars, and mine, and our steel and engineering. The pictures in your catalogs don't tell the story. They dominate the world heavy machine tool market today with CNC machines unimaginable even ten years ago capable of manufacturing the finest most technologically evolved weapons the world has ever seen all made guess where, and are likely the biggest threat to your complacency that has come along since the Indian wars. You think they sell all of their fancy production capabilities?

By the way, the current shortage of steel which is raising product prices in this country, supposedly because of a big increase in building in China and the far east is bull, in my opinion - we're selling all of our steel to them so they can build the tanks that will roll into Kentucky before your kids have kids. China remains a big mysterious place where even today it is impossible to know with certainty what they are doing in there, but they have always thought in terms of decades while we think in terms of months and the one thing to be sure of is that they are planning to come here and take this country - they like the weather.

Have a nice life!
