Stopped at a farm consignment auction for fun yesterday and watched a beautiful 1st Gen go for $3200. Totally unprepared to buy a truck on the spot, we could only cover to $3000 and that's where I bailed out of the bidding. I can't believe I missed it by that much. Would I have been crazy to buy that without knowing details? I don't know spit about 1st gen's, but my 30 minute examination made it look worth a lot more than that.
It had 232k miles on it. The engine compartment looked clean, and I don't mean hosed out at the car wash. It was clearly a well maintained vehicle inside and out. There was no chance to drive it but it was started and the engine purred like a kitten. The interior was clean except for expected wear to the drivers side of the seat. The body was clean, free of dings, and the paint and trim looked really good. Based on the minimal amount of weathering, this thing had to be a garage-kept truck. It had a very well used gooseneck hitch, so had probably hauled some.
What would you guys pay, if that's all you knew about it and couldn't take it for a test drive? What's the worst that could happen?
$3200? I think somebody got a truck at half price yesterday. Wish I had been ready...
