In 2011, I found and bought a 91.5 CTD for my son while he was on deployment to Afghanistan. It had around 200,000 miles on it and has an automatic transmission. He is complaining that he'd like to do something different, since the transmission does not have a lock-up and he feels like he's losing power. He wants to put a G56 or 47RH in. Since he works a lot and doesn't really have the time nor skills to do such a thing, I'm afraid I'd end up doing the work. I told him I'd just get the present transmission rebuilt and enjoy the truck. He doesn't pull anything and basically uses it occasionally. I just don't know if it's worth the work to upgrade, but all of my CTD pickups have been standards, so I'm not sure what to expect from the current setup. Thoughts from those with first gen AT experience, please?

Try & more efficient converter that stalls about 400rpm earlier, and turn up the line pressure within reason.

Tighter TC will definitely help, making it a lockup trans helps that much more. The lockup will definitely help keep engine and trans temps down if towing, it definitely uts more power where it needs to be.
