I tried to post this before but...

My tail lights, dash lights, horn and Speedo do not work (I bought my truck this way). The fuse is not the problem. Has anyone got any ideas as to where to look first?

I would try to source the short with a testlight or volt-meter from the back of the fuse panel, through the ignition system relays and finally through the fusable links. I have a feeling that its a fuseable link as those components are fed by the same circuit.
My buddies 91. 5 would shut the engine down if he tilted the wheel up to the top. #ad
. The ignition switch/relays may be the prob also.
Good Luck!!

Hey unclebilly,
If you can lay your hands on a wiring diagram and a test light so much the better. Looking in my Chiltons I see some fusible links. Look like wires, act like fuses--
and tricky to find if you don't know they're there. Also, was the truck sitting for a while when you bought it? If so you may have a little corrosion in the harness connectors.
Sometimes just un-plugging and re-connecting them will break through and you're good to go. It looks like there are very few points that all the components share power feeds so you may actually have more than one fix.
Good luck and happy hunting.

Wonder if there isn't a circuit breaker for those items mounted on the fuse panel in addition to fusable links? Looks like a turn signal flasher, but is a breaker...

Hey unclebilly,
Try removing the connector that goes into the computer that is located up behind the battery. This might fix your speedometer problems, I don't know about the other light problems. If this connector gets corroded neat stuff can happen, like on my truck where the computer thought I would benifit from a charging system that operated @ 18v, headlights were bright. Remove it, and clean with alcohol, reinstall and see what happens.

I have a factory manual for a "92" and it shows a spice that contains 4 fusible links and 3 wires, this bundle is shown to be near the preheater soleniods. If you start at the positive cable at the battery it should have a quick disconnect that is black in color follow that wire rearward and it should split into the fusable links. The one you need is an 18 gauge that is grey. the grey one feeds all the circuts you are having problems with. The questions is what caused it to burn out.

Got the tail lights, dash lights and horn working.

The road that the previous owner of this truck lived on had a very fine gravel on it that sand blasted the insulation right off of the tail light wires. As such, they kept shorting them selves out and popping the fuse.

Now I just need to fix the speedo, front CV joint (pon front drive shaft), and drag link.

Speedo sensor was buggered too.

Thanks to every one for all the suggestions.
