:) The neighbor bought all the stuff to convert his 91 auto to the 97 5speed. I searched for the 97 stuff to our engine, but can't find the answers. I suggested he go with 91 flywheel and adapter bell to 5speed, but he can't get his money back. He should of let me do the search before, but he's 19 and jumps in. Was there once myself, but have learned. What do you fellas think, he is using 91 pedals. Thanks guys. Tim

To use the 97 bellhousing, you will need the later block plate. then you will have to see if the clutch hydraulics from the 91 work; probably not. In that case, you need to get later hydraulics too. Or, get a conversion bellhousing that will use the 91 block plate with the NV4500. You can get the bellhousing from 800-std-tran in Texas.

:) Thanks for the reply, Joe. Ive been away for a few days, so will check with the neighbor to see where he is on the project. He has the later plate and all else, but I don't know about the hydraulics. Also Joe, theorectically, could a fella bolt a 97 215hp in the same spot as the 92 and use all 92 from block back? I hear that that starter is a problem, maybe not. Thanks Joe. :) :)

If you use the early block plate, the early starter works fine. That is, you can change the engine and use the early accessories. However, the clearance of the P pump and fuel filter will be snug at the master cylinder. I think it does fit, though, because others have done the conversion and not reported a problem there. Remember that the intercooler plumbing is smaller diameter on the first gen, so you may want to use the air intake and the turbo compressor elbow from the early engine. If you use the later turbo with wastegated housing, it is 1. 25" longer than the first gen so the exhaust pipe would need to be modified.

:) Thanks Joe. There seems to be a few fellas that have installed the 2nd gen engines in the early gen truck. None have responded so it leads me to believe not many. My thought was to use the cam, pump, and lines off this 97 on this 92, however with the hp right now seems to be ok. This would be a big project. Again, thanks Joe! Tim:) :)
