A friend has a 91 Chevy 4x4 1 ton crew cab, with a V8 auto. He also has a '91 Dodge Cummins 2500 4x4 with a terrible body. He's talking about stuffing the Cummins, Dodge auto, and transfer case into the Chevy.

Has anybody done something like this, and if so what were the major issues to be handled?

Thoughts and experiences appreciated!

That should be a relative piece of cake. There is a gentleman over on 4btswaps CREWCAB59 I believe is his user name... he make a new cross member and mounts.

Not sure how much you have read up on the swap... there are a couple of great articles here and the 4btswaps.com site has a bunch more.

The Chevy cross member has to be modified or come out... depending on what you do... you can use the dodge mounts and build brackets to make them work... or adapt the Chevy mounts to the Cummins. The guy I mentioned above has a company called Tennessee diesel conversions (again... no kick backs... just info that I have found) and is a Cummins part dealer...

His mounts and cross member make it so you do NOT have to have a suspension lift for clearance of the D60 in the front.

Wiring is pretty simple... grid heaters if you need them... fuel shut off solenoid... or use a PTO cable to shut off instead... gauges and wiring.

I am doing the swap soon in a 88 v30 Chev crew cab 4x4 truck. I have a 2nd gen 12v engine. I was looking for a complete 1st gen truck, but too much $$ here in Colorado for one.

Here are some links to read up on.

Hope this helps.

If you need some other 1st gen info there is always 1stgen.org After I read what was posted here... found that site and kept reading too!

Never can have too much information.
