Have a 91 3/4 ton diesel with some where around 280,000 miles that quit yesterday out of the blue and will not start back. When i say it won't start back it doesn't even try to crank. When you turn the key on all that works is the air conditioner and head lights, not instrumentation or anything so i know that the problem is electrical but just curious to know if anyone else has had this same problem. Thanks for any help or advice.

It sounds like a fusible link has been burnt. Can you use a tester or test light and test all the fuses in the fuse box, do this with the ignition switch in the run position. Report back which fuses have power and those that don't.

Better yet does this truck have the original starter? If so I think it is a better place to start. The starter solenoid contacts and plunger will wear in time to the point of not working. Usually it is a gradual process. Have some one tap gently on the solenoid (down on starter) while you turn the key, sometimes it will be enough to get it to turn over.

If you have no radio, dome light, wipers, etc it is probably a fusible link. If those work and still no start it will be the starter relay and/or starter. You test the starter with a remote starter button, heavy wire, screw driver, etc to see if it will spin. If it does it is the fusible links/relay problem.
