MY 91 3/4 TON 4WD CUMMINS POWER STEERING PUMP IS SHOT AND MY TRUCK IS DISABLED. HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT GETTING THE POWER STEERING PUMP PRESSED OFF OF THE SHAFT THAT THE DRIVE GEAR IS ON WITHOUT WRECKING EVERYTHING? ALSO MY POWER STEERING DRIVE GEAR IS SEVERELY WORN. WHY? IF ANYONE CAN ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS PLEASE E-MAIL ME. THANK YOU. E-MAIL ADDRESS IS -- email address removed --

I changed mine to the newer style vaccum pump that allows the pwer steering pump to be removed without taking the vaccum pump off also. The power steering pumps are not to bad about $65 but the vaccum pumps was over $450 I think. It worked for me because the truck is lifted with big tires and it plows alot and we burned 2 powersteering pumps up last winter so the second one was a dream to change ,the first was a pain until we gave up tring to separate them on the truck. Can't be done. Pretty dificult to do on a bench, too. Need special pullers I believe. The first vaccum pump is a simple diaghram style and costs abit to rebuild anyway, then you still have the same separation problem next time you need to change a power steering pump. If you can afford it update. I've owned my truck 2 years and that has been my only headache. No more headache.
