Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Idle question

i put the tst 3kgsk in and the engine doesent want to idle down or it takes a long time too now its stalling all the time too there were 4 springs in there it said to take all out excpt the big one and the shims took all out put new in started it and when i rev it it wants too run away most of the time any ideas on what i did wrond

Did you say you took out all the springs except for the big outer one as well as the shims? Or did you leave the shims in? If you left the shims in, that could be your issue right there. Your supposed to take out all the inner springs as well as any shims that are in there. What about the measurement from the top of the retainer to the top of the nut? Do both spring packs measure the same?? That could be another issue. I had one higher than the other on my install and it idled way to high. Backed out the higher one and it was back to normal.

i took out three springs left the big one in took out all the shims i could find under the springs output the new springs two per side in put the nuts back from where they were and everything eles back on . it wont idle i tried to adjust the idle bu it wants to run and not idle so i backed the nuts off and it got too where it wont run away but wont idle i turned them tighter it will idle but once u take it off idle it will go to 3k and wont come so now its frustraiting if anyone is real good with them ill give u my number and mabe its easer to help over the phone Thanx , Russell

Did you get both parts of the seats? The stock seat is 2 pieces.

If the install is correct you may need to set one spring set a click higher than the other side. Some take a few tries to get it right. I've only missed once after many installs

When I did mine, there are two spring seats. One for the large single spring and then another for the inner springs. Obviously you leave the large spring seat in but in your kit, it should have come with an aftermarket spring seat. So, you have the large spring sitting on it's seat, then after you remove all the inner springs, shims and the seat for the inner springs, you then install the new spring seat, and your two new inner spings. Put the reatiner back on, tighten the nut down to where it was at the stock position and you should be good to go. Like JohnE said, you MAY need to adjust the nuts a couple times to get it right, but not sure why the revs would be taking off on you. Have you messed with the idle screw at all? Are you sure your throttle is not sticking anywhere? There is a lot of linkage down there in the working area to access the springs.

How did you install the springs? Did you go through the top of the AFC housing or did you go through the plug on the side of the pump??

When you do the install *everything* but the largest spring is supposed to come out. The GSK will come with new seats and springs. You will re-use the top and nut only. I'd bet you have extra parts in there.

If all you did was the GSK, then they have to be either installed or adjusted incorrectly.

Reving like you mention is usually too tight, fyi.

Mike

P. S. Let us know what you find, I'm curious now.

Gusee i did i blue a good chunk out of the side of the housing so now its goin to cummins to get a 325 pump kdp fixed timming bumped to 16*and some oil leaks fixed so mabe it was for the better right

What did you just say? Please clarify your unusual english. I think you said the injection pump blew a hole out the side of itself?

And what is a 325 pump??

So you left some unneeded parts inside the pump and it grenaded?? What parts did you leave in there? Did you drop a shim down inside the pump? Also, which way did you do the install..... from the top of the AFC housing or through the plug on the side of the pump??

i went threw the side there r 4 springs in there take all out but the bigest one i left the next size down seat in there and the one spring was a little too high and hit the side of the housing and bang!!!! springs flew out the side "chunk" of housing was on the ground plus 1 1/2 qts of oil OOPS

Sorry to hear of your problems. I had the same experience but from a broken keeper after installing a 4K set of springs and went with a Piers stoopid pump.

Bruce
