Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 911....Ran truck outta fuel...what next?..

put a couple gallons in, played with the fuel pump... and got her back fired up and refueled, and put Howe's Diesel Kleen in. Did I do any damage? Took me quite a few times to finally get her started. What do I need to do? Will change out Filter, etc, but what else? Thanks for any help...

Biggest worry is the VP44, IMO. Since it's cooled and lube by fuel, can't be good to run it dry. I guess wait and see at this point. I know a few members did run out of fuel with no adverse effect. If it's running good now, your prolly OK. Time wil tell.

I ran my first pump out of fuel once, at 29,000 miles and it lasted until 84,000 with out any problems. I had it changed out by warrenty when the top cover started leaking fuel and the truck wouldnt start in the mornings with out bleding the system.

Funny thing is after Dodge agreed to warrenty the pump the dodge Mechanic (PAUL) a good friend of mine tightened the screws and the thing ran fine with out any leaks or start up problems for the next week waiting for the replacement pump to come in from Chyrsler .

well, u took some miles off that VP 44, thats for sure. someone might suggest disconecting the lift pump close to a 100 K, but that someone wouldn't be me. The vp 44 is a POS anyway, . . Cummins should be ashamed of putting that on there motors. Long live the P-Pump.
