I need a part number for the tail housing oil seal w/ dust cap
The od is 3" and the seal is ~2-3/16" id.
I tried doing several "searches" but no luck.
I've been to NAPA, Advanced Autoparts, Checker, Autozone and Drivetrain Industries. (Not in that order)
There are no numbers or markings on the old seal. #@$%!
I even called a Dodge ******* and was told they don't have a part number for a NV4500, Newprocess 241 transfer case tail housing seal w/sleeve and dust over!!!!#@$%!#@$%!#@$%!

My rebuilt 3-piece drive shaft with new u-joints was ready to go back in at about 4pm today but I have been running all over hells-half-acre for the last 5 hours in this cow town and have given up for tonight.:mad::mad:

Can any one help me?
A case of your favorite brew to the winner... Oo.

Thanks, Tom

I would call Quad 4X4( 406 446 -2427) tomorrow and ask him, as he seems to be a wealth of knowledge on these!!

Tom,

I have an auto so I'm not personally familiar with your transfer case or what you mean by "dust cap. " In looking at the Mopar parts manual, it looks like they show two different seal part numbers for the tail housing depending on the manufacture date...

Up to 7-05-00

5072896AA, SEAL, Output Shaft

After 7-05-00

4746258, SEAL, Output Shaft

Both part numbers check out good at MoparPartsAmerica

Good luck,

John L.

Call off the dogs!

Oo.

Cancel the 911 request. I got the seal at a transmission shop this AM.

Thanks Bob, I called Dan @ Quad 4x4 and he didn't have a part number he said because they buy from the oem in bulk. He did have the seal in stock but I could not wait for snail mail.

John L, Thanks for the posting. I'll keep that link handy for future use.

I started this AM around 7am by calling Blumenthal Transmissions in Oklahoma City, Ok. and they gave me a part number of "Federal Mogal 18173 which did not work but it did help to start a cross check and "National Seals #4741" is the correct part number. Nobody at the parts stores could come up with this #4741 only the guy at the transmission rebuild shop that I was referred to.

I was so happy I bought 2 @ $15. 00ea so I would have a spare. :)

I have the truck back together now and every thing is ok.

Thanks for the help and I hope this will help others in the future.
