92 - 93 Question

My son in law is looking for a 92 - 93 Dodge Cummins and has ask for my help. I have a 96 myself so I was wondering what kind of things he should look for when buying. Things like the KDP, is this a problem with these years? Like the fifth gear problem I had with my 96, is this a problem? Etc, etc.

If there is anyone in the Denver Co. area with a good one for sale, let me know and I'll tell him. But for the time being I'm looking for advice.

I lilve in Colorado Springs and have a 92 W250 for sale. Pretty good truck; we'd rather keep it and sell the Ford 6. 9, but we can get 2-3 times the money for the 92, and need the money prety bad. Email or PM me for details.

I have had 5 of these first gen trucks. The autos eat TPSs; manuyals have problems with holding up to the torque if the fluid level is not maintained or the engine is lugged while under load. 2wd front ends get a little low and have bushing problems after a few miles. (150-200K). I think they are pretty reliable, and power is easier to get than on the newer ones. Fiancee says my 93 outdoes her dad's 01 ETH (stock). Either it is sick, or I have done something right. I get 1-2 mpg better than he does too. AS for that end, the first gen 2wds get the best fuel economy on average, too. Body panels and door hinges have trouble staying in line sometimes as well. Rear brakes on 3/4 tons need upgraded to 3" shoes and 1-1/8 inch wheel cylinders for effective and even braking.

I know a few guys personally who have over 500K on these older trucks, and still going strong. Take care of it and it wil keep going and going and going... .

My truck is a first gen (92) and is the best vehicle I have ever owned. The ride is a little rough, but then these are real trucks.
