Powertrain Control Module

Powertrain Control Module (black box by battery) on our '92's controls OD solenoid, AC clutch relay, Cruise Control, Alternator voltage regulation, supplies voltage to power the VSS so speedo sees a signal and more.

I know of no test to see if PCM is good. Anyone else know how???

I would disconnect battery, disconnect PCM cable and reconnect it to see if it cures a bad connection. Beyond that ????.

Priced a rebuilt one at autoparts store for ~$250, 10 days and needed mine as a core to rebuild up front.

I removed mine and am in the process of making things work without it.

The Crank Position Sensor or it's connector could also be the problem. FInd the 3 small wires that come across the front of the engine from a connector positioned in front of the #1 valve cover. Clean the connector and apply dielectric silicone grease to the connector. You don't mention if anything else isn't working (a/c, cruise, tach, alternator).

If you search back on this site, you will see some good articles about testing/checking the crank position sensor. Also the throttle position sensor affects shifting.

Thanks for the reply. The ac and the alternator work but the cruise control won't function.

The truck is stock, has 250,000 mi.
