How do you set the idle on this thing?

It has an Allison auto in it, and it will push you through a redlight.

Any idea what Fleetguard oil filter number is in this? It is not the same as the ones on our trucks.

Model: 6BTA5 9A180-OSH

Serial: 44556394

Thanks,

Well MGM, there's and idel adjustment screw that is found on the injection pump somewhere that you should be ableto turn down. This should adjust the R. P. M's at idle. I'm not sure how to exactly adjust this, maybe someone else could help? For your oil filter delimma, what is the Fleetguard #? My engine serial number is 44660523 and uses the regular oil filter for these trucks, the Fleetguard LF 3349. Did this engine come out of a Dodge truck or a piece of heavy equipment (dozer, tractor, boat, etc. ) I believe if this is the case they could have different oil filter sizes. They also have a filter called a stratapore, which is a synthetic based filter and has a different number. Hope this helps!

If you have the Bosch VE pump, your idle adjustment is on the inboard side of the pump. It requires a (10mm?) wrench to break the jam nut. People have commented on the difficulty of getting it in position. I just used the open end of a wrench at almost 90 deg to the nut and turned it with screwdriver stuck through the box end. (my shop teacher would be proud :D ) Then you turn the rod to get desired idle.

Idle adjustment is on the top left of the pump. You'll see a piece of thread-rod about 2" long with a jam nut on the back. Loosen that, and twist the rod until you are happy with it.
