I just changed my fuel filter and when I took off the fuel filter the stud that attaches the plastic base came off also. I Installed the new O ring gaskets on the stud and at the bottom of the fuel filter. I then installed the plastic base along with the threaded stud. I tightened the stud from underneath the truck with a screw driver ( installed a slotted screw driver in one of the slots in the threaded base and turned until tight. Reinstalled the fuel filter satarted engine and it is now leaking pretty bad!!! I then took off the filter, the threaded stud and plastic base and noticed an "O" ring that is installed in the base. Could this "o"ring be bad??? Also, is there a special tool that is used to tighten down the plastic base (actually some type of tool that fits into the slots at the bottom of the threaed stud?). Thanks - Frank

There is a square section ring (gasket) between the fuel heater and head. Some members have had luck with a draglink socket, others with various homemade tools to tighten the stud. The gasket is readily available from Cummins, and I have seen where some have used a gasket from a small oil filter.

Thanks - dodgenstein, found the gasket at a local Dodge dealer, on the shelf! $3. 20 out the door! Going to install it now, hope it works! Frank

Installed new gasket and fuel filter, no... leaks!!! Finally ! However, I now have a slow drip underneath the injector pump!!! Any ideas anyone??? Also, my water in fuel light is on! Thanks again, Frank

Check to make sure that the line that feeds the pump from the filter was not knocked. It is possible you moved the line enough to have disturbed the seal. Most injection pump
seals are under $5 as well.

As for wif, all wires connected again?

These sensors are very sensitive. I am guessing you may have it screwed in a bit farther than before and now they are shorting out.

What I ended up doing with mine was grind off the tips about 1/32 and that solved my problem.

Thank you to all for all your help! Everything is plugged in, still light is on. Cannot seem to find exactly where the injector drip is coming from, may have to remove pump to get a better look. Going to have to run truck lie it is, Jersey's forcast is 1-3", that's a major snow storm here!! Hopefully, I will not cause any damage to the pump or engine! I've changed this filter atleast fifity times without a problem, now that a storm is forecasted ... well you all know how the saying goes. Frank

Since I could not find the injector pump leak, I had no other choice but to bring the unit to a local diesel injector specialist. Here are his findings: Leak at throttle shaft, removed top cover and found defective throttle shaft bushing, also, found incorrect seals in advance covers. Installed all of above and recalibrate unit to spec. Total cost $325. 00, quick turn around, dropped unit off yesterday at 1:00p. m. , unit was done by 10:00a. m. this morning. Seems like a good shop --- Garden State Diesel in Moorstown, N. J. Again, thanks to all for your input -- Frank
