Looking to install a tach on my 92. I have read threads on this until my eyes bleed. The only unused plugs under the dash I can find is a 3 pin female with black, orange, and red w/yellow stripe wire, and then a 4 wire 2 pin connector next to secured by the emergency brake release. Also my truck doesn't have any wires to hook to a crank position sensor that I can find. I do have the notched balancer though?

it's a Black plug with 4 wires what tach are you useing ? just did this on my crewcab this week use the yellow wire if you got the Kit from geno's .

I don't have the tach yet. I am trying to make sure I have my ducks in a row before I start. Like I said the 3 wire connector I have that I mentioned is in the same area as the four wire ones I have seen mentioned in threads and other pictures. I plan to use the suggested isspro tach when I am sure I have everything straight for the install

well my advise is buy from Geno's garage and get wiring kit that goes with it it explain's what the plug look's like with a picture so it's Simple .

I made my own wiring kit, as it's simply an extension from the pulse wire to the tach. The other wires are common ground, lamps, and switched power. The most important wire is the pulse wire, and I simply cut it, made a splice with a heavy duty connector, soldered the ends to each lead, and extended it up to the tach.

I could have sworn that my wire was grey with a blue stripe.

Here's the diagram you want... and it's free

Well after some digging it appears my trucks engine and harness may be 91. 5. At some point in its life it got a cab transplant from a 2 wheel drive gasser as the vin reads it was originally a 360 2x4 cab. I knew there was a cab swap performed, just always assumed that the drivetrain harness and cluster was from a 92 as well since it is intercooled..... Yes intercooler on a gasser core support. They did a nice job making it fit. Soooooo... ... Being that it is a 91. 5 the plug I am looking at and mentioned above I believe is a hookup for snow plow controls and that also means no factory plug for tach until 92 correct?
