To 4bt in a Jeep guy

Hello every body, I have just purchased a 1993 fleetwood motor home which came form the factory with a 230 hp intercooled CTD motor. My question is, is this the same motor that is in my 1990 CTD 4x4. I have never heard of the older motors coming from the factory with that much horsepower, the thing runs great, I would not mind getting a little more power out of it, but that takes me back to the original question can they and did they from the factory get that much power from the 1993 model year motor. Maybe it was custom designed for the motor home industry and is quite common, I am new to this motor home thing and feel like I have found a real gold mine in my new purchase. Any information any body may be able to share would be very much apprecciated. Thanks JHerman

reply 230hp

I believe it is the 7100, but I am not sure how to tell them apart. Was'nt the 7100 the later model of the two?. Thanks for replying. John.

VE to P7100 differance

The P7100 pump has the high pressure lines coming out the top of the pump, the VE has the lines coming out the back of the pump. If it is the P7100 230HP is a stock power level, not sure on the VE pump but 230HP seems high to me for stock power. However it can be turned up to make 230HP.

Engine tag

One more thing, there should be a tag on the pump side (gear cover) of the engine that list the CPL # and HP # of the engine.

Is that a pusher or front engine Fleetwood? I have a Ford powered front motored 90 Fleetwood Limited motorhome and am about to repower with a CTD and an Allison. I am thinking they made all their Diesels pushers.

It would be interesting to see it if its up front.

I'm planning to bump it up to 250 hp there abouts. The Allison can't handle much more than that consistently. We're searching for a 6 speed to use later.

230 hp

Thanks for the information on the pump, I will check it out this weekend and see where the lines are coming from. This thing run's so strong, I can not believe it is only 5. 9 liters. As to the question which end is powered, it is the pusher model, what you stated about the Allison is interesting, I was considering more power out of my CTD, but if the transmission is close to maximum tolerance levels at 230 hp I will leave it alone. Once again thanks for the great information. Thank You John.

John, My Allison is a 542 and it came from a pusher motorhome with 38,000 miles. Still looks new. The original owner wanted a 6 speed so he changed it. My good fortune, for now.

And for those who don't know, There is not much difference in a pusher and conventinal transmission in this case. The drive shaft is just really short on one and the axle is mounted backwards. :D
