Hello to all,

The tailgate trim on the crew needs some help. The red plastic trim piece that is glued to the chrome piece is starting to come off. You can visibly see this parting line through the plastic. Can this piece be pulled off and reglued? Will this leave a permanent mark in the plastic? Is there a good way to do this that it will still look like the factory applied it. Thanks,

Robert

You will see the scar behind the plastic if you pull it off and attempt to reglue that thing. One member, about two years ago, posted that he obtained the plastic piece but it was in two sections. It was from the dealership.

You may try this method or simply remove it like tugboat did. Another option would be removal and have that portion painted. It's aluminum right? Many of the engine parts are aluminum and a lot of over the road rigs are aluminum.

Not a problem to clean off the glue and paint it. The "gate" is easily removed from your truck. Find a couple 55 galloin drums to set in across and get to work. Post befor and after photos. Lots of gates out there need some TLC.

I didn't actually remove mine, I covered it with a very wide, white reflective tape. The red part on mine was pitted and gouged. It appeared as though the PO practiced darts with the board hanging on the tailgate.
