I have a '93 160hp VE pump, 12 valve with a bad injection pump & a '98 215hp 12 valve with a burned piston. For a low buck (more time than money thing) upgrade, could I strip the 93 down to the long block and install all the 98 engine components on the 93 long block? (as in the pump, injectors, lines, turbo, etc) Would I then have a 215hp rating or is there internal differences between the 93 160hp & 98 215hp long blocks?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

All you really need to swap is the gear cover and the fuel pump... the rest is just extras. It should all fit, though. The gear cover is the main thing that would trip you up, it's got a 3 bolt triangle pattern for the VE and a 4 bolt sqaure pattern for the P7100.

sounds like you have all the good parts available for you... . . you will need the lift pump and the fuel injection lines. . and injectors etc. . you will probably need the 9mm to 7mm adapter washers for the fuel injectors. . you should be set its a lot easier with a donor engine... . the p pump will just clear the master cylinder but it fits. . i just grabbed a aluminum master cylinder and hydroboost setup from a '90's chevy dually. . I want to swap that in mine... might give you more clearance, better brakes, and better seal on the fluid res.

Take some pictures and post em up here when you do th eswap... it would a be a good thread.

Thanks,

Deo

AFAIK, all the 12V's have the same internals with only minor mods on the head and mounting points. There may be a difference in the cams also but not positive on that or how much it is.

Front cover of course, the pump gear will be different I believe so you will need to use the p-pump one and maybe the cam gear also. Not sure about crank gear.

Not sure about the vacuum pump\power steeering pump if they are different but might need to swap them also.

The pump, lines and injectors will need to move also. Lines and injector tops are different between the years. You will either have to swap heads or grind a groove in the gen1 head for the pump to fit correctly. No adapters needed for injectors, they are both 7mm bodies.

Don't forget the LP either as it puts out a lot more pressure and flow than the gen1 unit.

Other than that, piece of cake. :D

You will need to use the timing cover and pump gear from the p pump as the others stated. The only difference between the 215 pistons and the earlier pistons (160, 175 180) was the ring land. The 215 piston was slightly stronger. The bowls are the same

The VE style uses a slightly different vacuum/ps pump set up. One is longer than the other. I believe it was done for clearance if memory serves me correct, I think the P pump one is shorter front to back.

As for the injectors, keep in mine the p pump injectors are set at a different pop off pressure than the ve pump motors. You will have to also wire in the relay for the fuel shut off solenoid, no big deal.

I think everything else has pretty much been covered. :D I will sleep on it. We did one, but it has been a while.
