4B parts want to trade or buy

No more ear plugs!

Many of you have contacted me regarding my replacing the Getrag 360 5-speed with a used take-out NV5600 6-speed. I really appreciate all the interest and encouragement. Here's the latest.

I got the 5600 installation completed except for shift lever boots and exhaust pipe reroute. I decided to go for a test drive. I filled the transmission with lubricant , backed out of the shop, turned around and eased down the driveway. At the highway, I gently acelerated thru 1st, 2nd and into 3rd. There seemed to be some noise from the transmission, but I put it down to the open holes in the floorboard. Besides, there's a lot more rotating parts in this beast than the old 5-speed. As I shifted into 4th, the noise increased. On into 5th and it got quieter. The noise came back as I put it into 6th. By this time I was nearly a mile from the house. I knew something was wrong, so I turned around.

I removed the transmission and sent it to a good shop. When they opened it up, it was obvious that it had been operated with no oil. The counter shaft and reverse gear were blued with heat. Bearnings were fused, etc. etc.

I went to the guy I bought it from and explained what I had found. Unfortunately he was not receptive because of the time which had elapsed since I bought the transmission (about 1 year). I have learned a $2500 lesson! I will never buy something and put it on the shelf without having it checked beforehand!

I need to find a good NV5600 from a 4x4 Cummins. If anybody knows of one please email me at -- email address removed --

Thanks,

Gil
