What details are included in "snow plow prep" factory option for 94-02 2nd gen? :confused Is it suspension upgrades or frame brackets?

thanks

On my 01. 5, it consisted of the heavy duity xfer case and adjustable front springs (not stiffer, just adjustable).

046/047 springs instead of 039/046 springs. I don't know what D/C meant by "adjustable front springs". No adjustment that I have found.

I never messed with it the springs and never had a plow. I'm just quoting the way I understood the option. Borush's comment sounds reasonable. In any case, the snowplow group had something to do with front springs and the HD xfer case.

Transfer case and heavier front springs. I've heard the adjustable thing tossed around, but my dealer says they are just heavier. I think it should be standard and called the "carry that heavy engine around" package.

I know up til 1999 you could only get the plow prep on regular cab trucks if they had a cummins engine. When they upgraded the axle to 5200 in 2000 then you could get the plow prep across the board on all 2500s,and only 3500 reg cabs still. The plow prep had 241HD t case on 2500s,marker lights on 2500s,a trans temp light, and HD front springs on all models. The HD service group was required, but the Cummins trucks already had it. The plowprep is misleading IMO,becasue the weight limits are so low that a truck of this size needs a HD plwo. and the limit is around 640lbs for the plow! Any good plow comes in at over 750lbs,only Snow way has managed to build a plow that meets the weight requirements and is strong enough for these trucks. Im including a pic of my old plow setup (a 980 lb 9'2" Boss V),this plow served me well, and the Ram carried it great,my new setup is a 810 Blizzard,so far its done even better than the Boss.

snow plow

just as a thought, I know on the earlier Rams they had a POOR ground system in them and would result in burned wiring. If it were me knowing/doing this, I would make sure there was a GOOD ground to take care of all accessories.

just my penny's worth.

136 amp alt is part of the HD service group, which is std on Cummins trucks. So every Cummins has one. it would be part of it on a v8 gasser though.

Thanks guys!!! the heavier springs was my target. Did the plowprep trucks' front sit any higher (without plow) than a non plowprep truck? My guess is, no. Heavy springs would increase capacity not height.

I'm looking for a HD way to level my 3500. Lift kits don't turn me on, hauling around 10K+ worth of trailer.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Jeff

Jeff the plow prep trucks sit ever so slightly higher, about 1/2 to 1". If you want either buy a 2" level kit(i have that). Or get the 047/048 front springs right from your dealer they are the stiffest you can put on there from Mopar.

Has anyone done this?

If so how much were the springs?

Did you notice any unloaded differences?

Ie are the springs too stiff without the plow?

Ira

Ive done it both ways stiffer springs/spacer,and timbren boosters. for my truck i llike the 2" spacers the best. I didnt at like the timbren load boosters. They do howeverwork great on IFS GM'S. Ia lready have the plow prep springs,so the 2" spacers worked great for me.

"Ie are the springs too stiff without the plow?"

I don't think so. instead I think that the heavy springs improve the ride by helping to stop any 'wallowing' feel. They're tight but not bone jarring.
