my friend has old 94 ranch truck

he said he thought there might be a aftermarket cable to put his truck in 4wheel

mice have chewed up all his vacuum lines!!! Does not want to fool with lines!!

Is there such a thing to make his 4x4 work???

thanks

Your friend will not be disapointed in the cable. Just make sure it is routed properly so it doesn't rub. I secured mine in several places with zip ties. I also squeezed a bunch of RTV sealer to help secure the grommet at the fire wall. You do have to adress the vacuum lines. Just rip them out and cap it off at the top of the firewall. Very easy. Good luck.

I put a Posi-lok in my 86, it worked great.

However, if it's a ranch truck there's no real reason to spend the coin.

It has been a long time since I had one open, but I think you can pop the actuator case open, slide the collar to engage the shafts, then put it back together so the fork keeps the collar from disengaging. Cap the vacuum lines and it's good to go.

If it sees street duty and he doesn't have locking hubs, he may not want to go this route, or he may want to slap a set of Warn/Milemarker hubs on it.

That is a good point. There is a kit out there that just locks the axle together so there is no need for the cable. It would be much easier to install. It would make the front end like a 2001-2002 (without the strength of course).

Warn/Milemarker hubs will not work on these trucks with unit bearings. You would have to do some sort of free spin conversion. Lots of $$$ for a ranch truck though.

My '02 (and all newer Dodge Rams) are fully engaged all the time. I guess it hurts the fuel economy a little but I've never felt the need for [un]locking hubs.

Unlocking will cut down wear on the bearings, u-joints, ring and pinion, front drive shaft joints... and give you a minor bump in fuel economy.
