this 94 haD 179k MI WHEN THE PIN FELL OUT. BROKE A 2 INCH CHUNK OUT OF CASE AND ENDED UP LAYING ON THE GEAR CASE OUTSIDE. THAT LITTLE

SUCKER GOT CLEAR OUTA THERE. made a believer out of the owner.

by the way the bolts inside barely finger tight. no thread sealant whatsoever.

most 2nd gens I work on have a brown sealant on those bolts. but this was

a early 94 so engine was built in 93. I have never seen a 89-93 that had

any thread sealant on the bolts inside. never.

this right here is a big problem, i would venture to say that this is the problem witht the dowel pin backing out more than 50% of the time, that is what i've learned at cummins. there is no "press fit" issue, when the case is put on, the pin does it's job by lining everything up, then bolts go in, WITH, thread locker on them, torqued to spec. and everything will be aok!

I think thats true w/ 1st gens. but most 2nd gens I've worked on had some

kind of thread locker on the bolts but the pin still vibrates out.
