Turbo whistle in new 06??

Buying used CTD--how much mileage is too much?

I've had a small problem with stalling since I bought this truck about a month ago. The worst was a few days ago in the morning, about 2* out I had kind of a hard time keeping it running until it started warming up but after I started driving it the throttle would bounce or jump up and down when I was coasting to a stop or at a stop. I've changed the fuel filter and cleaned the strainer, then I noticed one of the cable is fraying.

Any ideas?

Usually a bounce revving of the engine is caused by a weak/loose return spring on the linkage but I never heard/read of it doing it while stopped. (Mine came off a few times after I had recall done my mechanic tied to the spring connectors, it revved at slow speeds especially going over bumps. I would have to make sure my foot wasn't touching the pedal. )

I don't think a frayed cable would cause your engine to bounce/rev.

Well I drove it tonight and its not running good. It seems to lose power and quit. It was ok at first, then it ran rough, then would want to just stall. After stalling it wouldn't start so well like normal, I'd have to crank it a bit more than usual. It's getting pretty cold out again like 2*, Would that make it run any worse? Bad fuel line or an air leak maybe??

On my stock tach its just above the line before the 1000 mark, which I thought was 750. Is that right or is that 500 rpm? It just seems to be running crappy as I'm driving now.

That's the right mark. Do you have an automatic trans? If so the idle should be that with the trans in gear. AC should be on regardless of trans type.

If the idle speed is ok, then you may have some bad fuel. Do you have an anti-gel additive in your fuel? What is your fuel pressure?

I've got Power service in it now. I don't have a pressure gauge yet.

The truck ran good today around noon then I had to drive it home from my parents house later on tonight. I went to get some plywood and it ran like crap again. The idle would go down to maybe 500 or so. So I'd try to keep it up but sometime the engine wouldn't resond to me pushing the pedal. I tried pumping the gas as I was driving and the rpm's would hardly change, like it wasn't getting enogh fuel.

Pumping the pedal is just exercising your foot on a diesel. You also need to know your fuel pressure when it's running bad. I don't know about Power Service. Is it an anti-gel? It should say so on the bottle.

Do you have an automatic transmission?

It looks like power service is an anti-gel.

I've got an automatic.

When I give it throttle like if I need to cross a road from a stop it doesn't want to go, that's if I ease on the throttle or stomp on it. It's kinda hard to describe but while I'm driving the rpm's will just drop, the truck looses power, then the rpm's jump back up. It's frustrating so all I can do is pump it a couple times but it hardly responds unlike normal. Just think when you rev an engine in neutral, the rpm's go up... this thing wont do it when it's running bad.

I haven't done anything to it except swap out the fram filters for wix, change the fuel strainer and put a amsoil air filter on.

I checked my recalls... I've got to get a new throttle cable and secondary hood latch.

So I drove it home again from my parents house after my dad had it plugged in for 3 hours and it ran great. I don't unstand why it would run better being plugged in vs. warming up to operating temp?
