Hi all, new poster here so tell me if I'm doing anything wrong. I'm looking at a 3500 reg. cab, 4x4, 5 sp. with 273,xxx miles. The engine leaks some oil from the frot, but I don't think its the KDP. Here are the problems: none of the power accesories in the cab work like windows and locks, heat/ac doesn't work, and the truck has been used pretty hard. The paint is bad with scratches and dings, and one dually fender is broke. The biggest problem is that all the steering bars need replaced. The guy wants $4000, do you all think that that is to much? Thanks and sorry for such a long post!

Only you can make that dieision. A truck is worth what you are willing to pay for it. The steering isn't really that big of a deal if you do it your self. That fender is big $ if you can even get one. As for the acc. check the main plug under the dash above the clutch pedal and make sure it's connected (assuming you checked the fuses in the panel AND under the hood... ).

Yeah, that's what I thought also. I gave a lower offer but he wouldn't take it. The trucks been sitting there for 2 years. Maybe if it sits for a while longer, he'll go lower.

If it runs It's a steal. I say buy it. Most likely the seal in the gear cover needs replacing, so you get to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, (KDP), cost $75, Track bar and new stabilizing links $250, Could be that the A/C just needs to be charged, but cater for another,(Scrap Yard),$100, Electrical problems are hard to find sometimes, but if the truck was used on dusty roads, a good clean of all connections will most probably do the trick. Basically if you wrenched on thew truck yourself, you will replace all the things that need to be replaced, paint the truck and bomb it for under $7000 and that includes the $4000 purchase. Great Deal.

I'd be a little concerned if it sat for 2yrs. It does bad things to seals and such. My Ford had sat for a few years too. and if it has been run that hard, I think you are in for more than you bargained for. Might as well spend the extra money, and get something that has been taken care of better. Your wallet will thank-you. As they say, "Pay me now, or pay me later. " One way or another, it'll probably cost the same in the end, with a lot more of your time invested.

Or, buy it, keep the engine and maybe the transmission, then part the rest of it out.

I was gonna say buy it until you said at the end there that it sat for 2 years. Forget it, not worth it for 3K if you ask me.

Them shoes are made for walking and fast

Don't wast your money on junk wait and a nice truck will come along. Don't get In a hurry and there are nice truck out there.

Don't apologize for a long post because it's not a long post. Welcome to TDR, It's a good web site. $4,000 for a 95 is a good price, maybe a steal. I sold my 95 Clubcab DRW 4X4, for $16,000 16 months ago. It did have low mileage and in excellent condition, perfect paint, garage kept. I'd buy it and fix it up. You can certainly get plenty of help right here on TDR.

"Used hard" is different than "Used hard and never serviced"

You have to determine if fluids were changed regularly. Does the owner have receipts or a log?

$4,000 is a tempting price, but I'd try to get him lower. With a truck like that, you can't bid too low. I've bought cars that lots of things didn't work on it, and I got lucky and fixed them all easily. But sometimes you just get hit right between the eyes.

A guy that I work with knows the owner and he said that the truck has been beat with bad servicing. I don't need another diesel anyway, my 97 is in perfect shape and only has 113,xxx miles so I'm keeping her going for a long time. Bombing would be great, but college comes first!

Hey!! Glad to see someone close to home on here...

In my opinion, it depends on what you plan to do with the truck..... IF you don't need it to do anything, I say buy it and make it what you want it to be... . Dependability is the real issue with it in the shape it's in... A fender or new bed should be easy enough to find... just find a place that swaps on flat beds. . (central ky truck and trailer has 2 d-beds)

I think that if it's been sitting that long, it probably has something terminally wrong with it and you need to investigate that a little more.

The worst you could do it fix it and make your money back on it... .

In that case, I'd pass. Go to school, much better investment. :)

Make sure you check the KDP mine chugged oil out of the front and ran fine with the cover cracked. use a flashlight and look at the pulley mount and rev the truck up the cam gear will splash oil out the crack and run down the cover if it is cracked
