Archived 95 automatic with trans go shift kit

all of a sudden my 95 2wd autom. shifts back from lock-up to OD and back to third, trans temp light up on the dash but my temp. gauge on the pillow shows ok temperature. the dash light is even on when I start it in the morning.

I installed the transgo kit myself and it worked fine for 3 month. Just now the temperature problem started and obviously the 95 is not controlled by the typical temperature solenoid like the later ones. does anybody know how the trans temperature is measured on a 95. the backshifting is a normal symptom assuming the temperature was too high (what it definitely isn´t) Here in germany a transmission specialist for american transmissions is hard (or impossible) to find. every hint would be appreciated.

Like my 94, I believe your 95 has a transmission temperature sender in the fluid coolant line right at the outlet from the TC that prevents the transmission from shifting into OD until it reaches a given temperature. Make sure the wire connector is intact. If it is, the sender may be bad. Pull the plug and check the sender with an ohm meter. The sender should read close to 10,000 ohms at 70 degrees F to around 80,000 ohms at zero degrees F.

If the ohm readings are reasonable, clean the contacts on the sender and in the plug and try it again.

If you don't have an ohm meter and can't check the sender, connect a 1000 ohm resistor across the contacts in the plug, tape it in place and see if that allows it to shift OK. If so, your sender is likely bad.

Thanks Howard, coincidently I saw a comment in the new bulltetin referring to some transmission oil leak where they mentioned the temp. sensor in the oil line. with your detailed description i an check now, if it´s working correctly or if my downshifting problem is related to wrong information from the sensor.
