Needed new pads cause brake pad dissinigrated and cause one rotor to be ruined. Easy job! Not really, rotor is behind the hub. Well here goes. Axle nut destroyed the threads on the outer axle shaft while removing. Totally, no threads left. Now need to replace outer axle shaft, u-joint, axle nut. While removing hub, bearing separated, now junk. Need new hub! While apart, new dust shield and spacer. New rotor and bearing. My 50. 00 brake job has now turn into a 750. 00 job. I know my truck is 18 years old, but my god, how can they sell a axle nut and shaft, that when removed is destroyed. Upon checking around, I find that it is a common occurance on this Dana 60 axle. Oh well, alot of never-seize on reassembly and the expectation of the same on the other side. I do love my 12 valve, though. :):)

That sucks, I feel your pain. I dealt with that nonsense on my old 99. Now I got the 01 with pull off rotors and two piston calipers. I also drilled the hubs and put a grease zerk fitting on both of them and pumped them full of grease so I wont have to replace them for a long time hopefully, you can tell when hub is getting dry it will make a clicking noise. It was a pretty easy straightforward job.

Yeah, I'm pretty lucky here in the SouthWest, most times the nuts come off pretty easy..... I've also been known to pull the whole outer assembly out of the steering knuckly and knock the studs out, taking the rotor off over the axle shaft... .

I'm also known for taking a 1" impact wrench and shredding the outer nut, then welding another nut to the outside of it to get it off... ... Then realizing I screwed the whole thing, so I bought a used one out of the wrecking yard with a good rotor and fixed it for $100..... Meh, you win some, lose some... .
