I have a 95 2500 Ram truck and I stopped at a local store to make a purchase and after I got in the truck started the engine and turned the lights on I noticed I didn't have dash lights or tail lights. I checked the fuse and it was blown , replaced fuse turned lights on blowed a fuse again. I kept tinkering around trying to find the problem. With the fuse out I could pull the light switch part way out between off and on and the lights would burn. Got the truck home (without getting caught) and next day I put another fuse in and the lights worked fine until Last night and now it is doing the same thing. I remember a while back I read a post about my model truck having problems with the switch going bad. I did a search but I can't find the post about the light switch. Oh by the way, when the light switch is pulled half way out the parking lights are dimmer. Does this sound like a bad switch or do I have another problem?

Do you have a stock body or a replacement body on your truck. I had the same problem and found a bad connection (one of many thanks to a "Professional" shop that deals in after market bodies) and that cured my problem, but like Joe suggested check for recalls.

95 dash light,tail light problem

I checked the VIN # the only one showed up was the throttle cable replace which I have already did that and my truck body is stock. Thank's for the replys.

All Vehicles that I know of have dash and tail lights interconnected. It's a safety issue. Let's you know when your tail lights are out, for whatever reason.

Given your forum "name", and the info in your signature, I think it is highly likely that truck's wiring to the trailer towing connector has some sort of problem.

If your truck has the factory trailer tow option and the associated wiring harness then the trailer running lights and the connector to same should be isolated by the trailer tow relay.

But a lot of these trucks were retrofitted with trailer towing connectors by prior owners or shops that did not bother with the factory wiring option, and just "tee-ed" into the truck's running lights, usually back behind the taillight lens. Quite often, this is done with questionable wiring practices and the sloppy wiring eventually shorts out.

A separate issue is that trailers with lots of running lights will overload the headlight switch if the factory trailer tow relay is not used.

I'm having the same sort of problem.

When I pull the headlight switch out (before the first click) the runninr lights will come on. When I continue to pull it out the lights go off. I replaced the switch & wiring pigtail from Dodge & still have the same problem.

I'm going to check trailer connections & ground. Any other suggestions?
