Starting the 95 Dodge for the first time in the morning takes 6-8 attempts, whether I use the pre-heater or not. I have to depress the fuel pedal and continue cranking. Once it catches hold, it runs very rough, I must keep my foot on the fuel pedal until it evens out.

After the truck is up and running, if I turn off for only about 10-15 min. it will restart fairly easily. After that amount of time I need to depress the fuel pedal once more.

Have installed a new check valve in the return line of the injector pump, did not make any difference.

About the same time as all of this started, I had the throttle cable recall work done. Are the new parts responsible for this problem or could they make it worse?

Is there a check valve in the lift pump side of the system? If so where is it?

Sounds like your fuel return line is leaking, even if you can't see diesel on the outside it can let air in. It's a very common problem do a search for much more info.

Mine fuel line leaked going to the motor. I had a crack where the steel line a high performance sst braided stuff meets.

I'm in the middle of defeating my hard starting woes, I changed out the fuel lines and the truck started fine for about a week then she started to act up again, now as luck would have it , my fuel shut down solenoid is getting stuck. It's a very unpredictable occurence, sometimes my truck will start up fine for days then all of a sudden she'll just crank and crank but not start, and pumping the primer button won't help in this situation. Hope this helps a little.....

Hwyman, I agree with illflem, it sounds like your lines may be cracked.

Kalaehina, your problem sounds like the relay for the solenoid. There has been much written about this in previous threads. Check that relay first.

May also want to consider the in tank pickup tube. I think TDR issue 31 has a article about hard starting due to a crack or hole in the pickup tube within the tank. Lines lost prime after sitting for a bit... just my 2 cents.

You have a fuel leak. Beings as it's a 95, I'd gues the fuel return line. I had the return line crack, it's metal, on my 98. 5 and it had the exact symptoms as yours does. From reading on here it's a leaky return line is a pretty common problem for a dozen valver, especially an earlier one.

I had asimilar problem. The fuel line was fractured between the tank and the engine that allowed the fuel to drain out of the injectors and cause ahard start. The solution-- a new hose just behind the cab.
