I have a friends 95 DRW 5sp that is down. It has lost second and reverse. I don't know much about the early 2gen's I assume its a NV4500. Looking for info on a replacement new or used. Or is there a common problem with them that causes second and reverse to go out.

I don't know about second and reverse, but the 2nd gen 5 speed do have the dreaded 5th gear nut problem. I had a 95 DRW, but never had a problem with the 5 speed transmission. That was the best vehicle I ever had.

Standard Transmission in Ft. Worth is my choice. 800-783-8726 They sent me one FedEx ground. It left on a Fri, I received it in ID on Mon. You will need to know if it is round or square top. A 95 is prolly a round top.

Edit. It might be a good idea to pull the old one before ordering. If the clutch is bad ST also carries SBC and other fine clutches.

Up to '96 is "round top". There are other changes to the transmission also, such as the input shaft. The up to '96 is a better design in my opinion. If you are getting a whole redone transmission, get the fully splined 5th gear shaft. The factory 5th gear shaft only is splined halfway through the gear, causing the gear and its retaining nut to strip/back off.
