cummins into 1983 chevy crew cab

Looking for 4BT and componets for repower conversion...

Does anyone know what it would take to put a CTD in 95 GMC sub. 4x4. Even as much as i hate automatic trannies. I would accept it in a cruiser like that. And who would be willing to do that kind of work. We only get about 12mpg out of the 350 it has in it now and i would love to just have a diesel in it? How much am i lookin at to put one in it?

That's also what I was getting out of my '95 K2500 (4WD, 3/4T) GMC Suburban with the 350, so don't feel bad.

Why not just buy a diesel-equipped Sub? The 6. 5L TD was available in 1500's, as well as 2500's. The 6. 5L TD isn't the greatest of engines & the electronic Stanandyne fuel injection pump sux big-time but it would be a lot easier and cheaper than trying to do a conversion. Depending on the rear gearing & whether 2WD or 4WD you could expect 16-20mpg out of the 6. 5L (when it was running).

Good luck.

About '98 I saw a ton chevy with a cummins 6 done by a guy who

worked for cummins gateway(St. Louis). He did it for himself, and

so it was what he wanted, rather than "to a price". Was a very

clean install, and he said the biggest task was reworking the radiator support to make room for the longer cummins. Also had to grind a casting boss from the front diff, and buy an adapter to

mate the cummins with the turbo 400 transmission. Was largely a "drop

it in and fabricate to fit" process, at least in my opinion.
