Guys,

My truck has developed an annoying squeak that almost sounds like the brake wearout indicator found on the front discs. I know this is not the case since I just replaced all the brakes a couple of months ago and the squeak is coming from the right rear side. I tried washing out the drums with some water thinking that it might be brake dust build up, but that didn't help so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

That's an odd symptom. I have a '95 and (so far) it hasn't managed to do that. First thing I would check is the lube level in the differential. Then I would look closely at the right rear hub to see if there are any symptoms of a seal leak.

annoying squeak

You might want to check the headache rack connections on the right hand side - mine loosen up on occasion - gotta try some loctite on there.

kscheuerman,

I see this is your first post. Welcome aboard!! How about a signature so we can see what sort of beast you are herding around?

squeak

you might try checking the upper shock mount as it doubles as a muffler hanger. mine destroyed itself after the rear tailpipe bracket broke causing the exhaust system to wobble up and down resulting in metal fatique on the shock bracket. after many miles of squeeking and rattling I finally found the problem, had to replace the shock bracket. $150. 00 new. bought one used for $80. 00

If you have overload springs check to see if the spring has rotated on the mount. If so the spring can rub on things. Also check the main leaf spring to see if it has walked over to one side and is rubbing on the frame.

To help find the problem you can hose down things under there with water then drive to see if prob went away, thru trial and error you will find it.

Thanks fellas for the quick responses I'll be checking them tomorrow. As for the frequency of the squeak its their and sometimes its not. Yesterday I went up to some ranch property and it squeaked the whole time. Today its been intermitent. I'll get back to you as soon as I check out your suggestions.

Joe

Ck. the shocks and maybe put some anti-seize/lube on the retention bolts and re-torq... tighten them.

My 95 did this on the left rear, a little anti-seize and re-torq. again after the Rancho's went on did the trick.

I was able to replicate it myself by lying under the truck and rocking the truck up and down with my knees on the spare tire.

Good luck,

Andy

After further investigation I have found that the squeak is in fact coming from the right front wheel. Nevertheless I did find out that my shock bracket was cracked:eek: . So do ya'll have any suggestions to resolve the squeak now that I have verified that it is the front wheel squeaking:mad:

Thanks,

Joe

If memory serves there is a recall out on 94's and some vin's for 1995 that involves welding new brackets and strengthening that area.

See the dodgeram.org and look for recalls.

Good luck

Joe,

If you have cracks there get it fixed ASAP! The recall for that is a safety recall, no charge. If the tower breaks off it will get exciting in a hurry. That's the reason for the recall.

Sorry guys to mislead you because of my vague post. What I meant to say is that my rear upper shock mount was cracked. As for the recall for the shock towers I had that done about 9 months ago because I travel dirt roads often. As for the squeak it is driving me crazy because it has gotten lounder and more frequent today:mad:. So I am still up for any suggestions you can provide me with:D

Thanks for the help,

Joe

I had a very faint squeak front passenger side at 150K miles. Turned out to be the hub. (sealed bearing from the factory not serviceable  ) This was on a 3500 4x4 not sure if a 2500 is the same?? If it is, loosen the front drive shaft & see if their is any play in the hub. Replaced the front passengers side at 150K miles & the drivers side at 170K. (I live 5. 5 miles from the nearest paved road)
