well i went and looked at a 95 ext. cab 4x4, with an auto in it this week. it is a pritty clean truck for 166K miles. its all stock . dealer put brand new tires, and breaks all the way around. track bar is shot, and it needs uper and lower ball joints.

now to the questions!!!

when i drove this thind it was slower than father time! to bosst what so ever.

before i drove it i looked every thing over. looked good. at adle it sounded great. and reved it up. real smooth.

but this thing crawled through the gears to 70 mph @ 2600-2700 rpm's.

the turbo wasnt spooling at all.

this truck dosnt smoke at all. it acts like ist not going to WOT, but the linkage looks good.

its getting air, and the turbo looks good. impeller shaft has no wiggle to it. and the exhaust has some pressuecoming out. just no go, when you put the peddle to the floor.

my first gen can run circles around this truck.

any ideas? on why this truck is sutch a dog?

thanks Bob

boost leak

REFLOYD,

forgot to mention that was my fist thought. i checked all the boots, toobs, and intercooler. all checked good.

the dealer had "his" mechanic take the pump apart and it "checked good". but the dealer said he knows nothing of diesels, and i dont think his mechanic is that good. he towed it to to a diffrent shop, and he went through the intire fuel system, and even pop tested the injectors, and recaled them. he said it ran much better than before. but this thing is not spooling at all. any ideas. i want this truck, but i want to know whats going on with this thing.

Bob.

If the wastegate is stuck open (or a very weak diaphram) it wouldn't build much boost and the AFC wouldn't move enough. Check to see if the gate is open or if you can move the rod by hand. Or make sure the AFC line isn't leaking too.

Also check to see if the shut off selenoid is all the way up when it's in the run position.

Could this be a transmission problem? The engine won't develop boost unless it's under load, if the transmission isn't putting the power to the ground you'll just be doing a high idle.

One clue that made me consider this was you saying it revved to 2700 rpm. The engine is governed to 2500, for it to make 2700 there is something fishy.

well i checked the waste gate rod, and it didnt move. i was told theese usually fail in the closed posiotion. the AFC is the only thing i can think of. maybe the diaphram in the AFC. and i will check the the shut off selenoid. but explain to me how it will be in the up position.

thanks Matthug!

Bob,

As a quick check on the AFC. Take it off. Cover the hole to keep dirt out and oil in. Go for a test ride. It should smoke and go pretty good. If it does you have an AFC problem. If there is no or very little change look somewhere else.

One ton;

might check the Catalatic converter, might be plugged.

Overflow valve might have gone south. Just check every thing!!!!

when i bought my 95 a few years back it was stock with 100k. it was pretty slow until i did a few mods. now it is much better. dont forget it is only 160hp stock. :(

I recommend checking the cat also. My 95's cat was completely plugged at 72K, I could only build 4 psi. Still drove and ran fine, just no balls at all and bad fuel mileage.

thanks every one

thanks every one.

flyairam,

transmission seems to be ok. might be slippin from drive to OD. i am not sure with the stock tacks, but this one didnt seem right, a lot of bounce in it.

Mlee & Niki,

i will have to check on the cat. this truck seem to be all stock, even the muff. but they pulled the muff off, and it didnt help. so i will check the cat out as well.

MAleksandrowicz,

i have a first gen thats rated a 160 hp as well. besides a K&N, and straight pipe. my truck was stock when i got it, and it would run circles around this 95. now with a few mods on the 1st gen, that 95 cant even hold a flame to it. so its more than just a stock, no mod issue, but thanks.

i am going to take another look at it on tuseday. we will see what happens.

any more ideas , keep them coming please.

thanks Bob.

Go buy it and replace the pump (with a 215 at 16 degrees), injectors, torque plate, AFC spring, GSK, turbo, exhaust, valve springs, and kill the dowel pin.

And the transmission.

Then it'll run around your 1G. :-laf

I'm voting for clogged cat or AFC problem. I looked at one with a birds nest in the air box--on a dealer lot. Well, not an actual nest, but there was enough junk to make one.

Good Luck.
